The State of Wisconsin Geographic Information Officer:

The GIO coordinates Wisconsin’s geographic information systems projects and ensures that GIS policies support the mission of Wisconsin government. The GIO coordinates Wisconsin’s geospatial information activities, implements standards to facilitate interoperability of information related to homeland security, makes recommendations on awarding grants to fund geospatial services, and to create information sharing agreements with state, local and tribal governments.

The State Agency Geographic Information Coordination Team:

The State Agency Geographic Information Coordination (SAGIC) team is comprised of representatives from state agencies with mutual geospatial interests.  SAGIC’s mission is to promote and improve the collaboration, communication, quality, and sharing of best practices among state agency users and developers of geospatial data and technologies.

SAGIC serves as the primary advisory group and forum for state agency programs, the Geographic Information Officer (GIO), and other interested groups and organizations that deal with the business and/or technical geospatial issues of state government.

The Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council:

Creation of a Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council (WIGICC) provides a new opportunity for geographic information governance and sharing. The overarching objective for the creation of the Council is to give all stakeholder groups within the geographic information community a voice in the decision making process regarding statewide initiatives. WIGICC will facilitate the coordination of previously disconnected efforts at the state and local levels to provide data sharing, standardization, and collaboration. This statewide coordination will better situate Wisconsin for emergency preparedness and response, economic competitiveness, public health delivery, environmental management, educational opportunities, and efficient delivery of services to the public.
